Mikel, Koldo and Txomin talk about the origins of Kukuxumusu.
The partners of Kukuxumusu try to explain the secret of the success of Kukuxumusu on this video. In addition, on this other page of Sanfermin.com you can learn about the evolution of the first tee shirts that The Factory of Ideas and Drawings created.
It all started with a trip to Australia in 1989. Three friends from Iruñea/Pamplona, Mikel, Koldo and Gonzalo, discovered that "down under "they made some good quality souvenirs and they thought that that could be something that would work in their own town where the souvenirs in those days tended to be of poor quality and nothing to write home about. And, if they could make a few bucks at the same time... In any case, they could have some fun while they tried it out.
Their initial invention had a simple outlet: selling tee shirts in the street on the theme of the running of the bulls in Sanfermin (a drawing and a blood-stained hole that looked like a goring in the back from a bull) and a simple objective; to drink the profits liter by liter. 5.000 tee shirts were made and they had to eat the half of them. However, they sold enough to keep well supplied in kalimotxos; that part of their ambition worked out just fine.
The idea, after some initial slip-ups inevitable from beginners, began to show signs of success. As they were not exactly born yesterday, they tried out the same idea at the fiestas held in nearby cities and towns with new drawings. These also seemed to go down well with the public. Little by little, their fun idea began to turn into a rather interesting project and soon some extra bodies were taken on and a story began to unfold until Kukuxumusu became what it is today.
By the way, the project continues to be a fun thing and of course, they continue to like their taste for kalimotxo.
